Release

March 20, 2006 - Version #2000 - MailFoundry is pleased to announce the next release of the MailFoundry Anti-Spam Appliance system software with an expected release date between March 20, 2006 and March 22, 2006.

IMPORTANT:
Effective with the October 18, 2005 release of the MailFoundry Anti-Spam Appliance system software, there have been several changes to the automatic update service. If you wish to use the automatic update service, you will need to modify the settings found under the "System Settings" tab in the "System Updates" sub-menu. You will be asked to define how often your appliance checks for new system software updates and at what time the check will take place.

Once you have configured these options, your MailFoundry Anti-Spam Appliance will automatically check for new updates and apply them.

Customers using the MailFoundry Anti-Spam Appliance 2100, 4100, 6100 and 8100 will receive an email notification once the new update has been processed. You will then need to reboot your appliance for the changes to take effect.

Please note that once your appliance has been rebooted it may take several minutes for the system software to come online due to database updates which must be processed.

Customers using our MailFoundry Anti-Spam Appliance 1100 need not reboot their appliance.

Once this update is applied to your MailFoundry appliance the system software version number, located at the bottom of the user interface screen, should read "MF2006032000".

Reminder:

If you receive email that should have been detected as spam, please forward the message to spam@mailfoundry.com. If you encounter a message which has been falsely detected as spam please forward it to notspam@mailfoundry.com.

New Features:

Targeted Filters: Added a new system-wide feature called "Targeted Filters". These filters are designed to block messages which generally fall outside the normal processing of the MessageIQ Anti-Spam Engine.

Currently, Targeted Filters include the ability to block messages with a non-blank subject line and blank body, or messages with a blank subject line and blank body.

Targeted Filters work only when MessageIQ Anti-Spam v3.0 (currently in public beta) is enabled and can be configured under the "MessageIQ" tab.

Improvements and Fixes:

MessageIQ Anti-Spam v3.0 -- Improvements have been made to the processing speed and stability of MessageIQ Anti-Spam v3.0. This engine is currently classified as Public Beta.

MessageIQ Anti-Spam v2.0: An issue has been resolved which would cause the MessageIQ Anti-Spam v2.0 engine to delay processing of inbound messages if it was unable to retrieve the current Spam Profiles Database after a certain number of attempts.

Queue Status Viewing -- An issue has been resolved which would not allow certain messages in the Quarantine Queue, to be released or released and reported as a false-positive from within the queue status viewing interface.

Queue Status Viewing -- It is currently not possible to sort queues by the message date. This option will be added at a later date.

Queue Status Viewing -- Message counts in the queue status view and the quarantine queue are no longer updated in real-time in order to improve performance of the queue viewing interface. Administrators may see a small but temporary discrepancy in the message counts when viewing queues.

Queue Search -- After entering a search term you may now press the ENTER/RETURN key to submit your query.

Queue Detail Display -- Corrected an issue with the time display not using the correct time zone.

Domain Filters -- An issue has been resolved which caused domain level filter priorities to be incorrectly set when deleting certain domain level filters.

Unknown Sender Delay -- Messages which are currently not processed due to the Unknown Sender Delay will now be displayed in the Unscanned Queue.

March 22, 2010 - MailFoundry Release Announcement
---------------------------------------------------

MailFoundry is pleased to announce the next planned release of the
MailFoundry Network Appliance system software.  MailFoundry plans
to release the new system software between March 22, 2010 and
March 24, 2010.  Once released you may apply the update using
the "System Updates" option under the "System Settings" menu of
your MailFoundry appliance.

Once this update is applied to your MailFoundry appliance the system
software version number, located at the bottom of the user interface
screen, should read "MF2010032200".

NOTE:
-------
As of April 15, 2010, if you are on a previous MailFoundry System software release, the anti-virus updates will no longer work, and anti-virus scanning scanning will be disabled. To avoid this issue, please update to the MF2010032200 release before that time.

Overview
-----------

The MF2010032200 release of the MailFoundry software includes the following
new features and updates:

An update to the anti-virus engine.
Upgraded services, including web server software.
Enhanced security measures

Highlights of the bug fixes include the following:

Fixed password issue when trying to configure LDAP for address verification

A comprehensive and detailed breakdown of the new features and bug fixes is now listed to aid the integration of this new release and for customers who require extra information for compliance.

Features / Updates
----------------------

An update to the anti-virus engine is included in this release. Per the NOTE section above, as of April 15, 2010, all previous versions of the MailFoundry system software will have their virus scanning disabled due to changes in the virus signature database updates. Please update to MF2010022300 by then to ensure continued virus protection.

The backend web server and web cgi engine have been upgraded for enhanced security.

Version information is no longer given by the web server for HTTP requests.

For customers using the SSL version of the Mailfoundry User Interface, the SSL protocol version accepted by the web server have been limited to SSLv3 or TLSv1. This should aid in passage of PCI compliance checks.

The SSH daemon has been upgraded on all 32 bit models (1150b, 2100, 4100, 6100), to aid in PCI compliance. Please note that whether or not this daemon runs is entirely optional on the end-user part, and may be disabled at any time by going to System Settings → Support Admin Login and disabling the Support Login option. SSH is not required to run unless it is needed by the MailFoundry support staff to diagnose/fix an issue.

A new serial console application has been provided, and security restrictions removed. To access this, connect to the serial port with a terminal application with settings 38400 buad, 8N1, and at the login prompt, enter "mfesu". This will bring up a menuing system, which will allow you to fully perform all actions that you might otherwise perform via the web console normally accessed at 66.18.31.253, including a simple and quick configuration utility. The online manual will be updated soon with a step-by-step walkthrough of this new feature.

Bugfixes
----------

A bug in the MF2008060900 release that would prevent configuration of the Exchange Connector with certain passwords has been fixed

A bug in the MIQ engine that caused problems with certain MIME-encoded headers in messages has been fixed

A bug that could cause quarantined messages to not be released upon request has been fixed.

A bug that would not allow the user to change the hostname of the appliance has been fixed

A bug that would not allow the user to add/modify aliased IP addresses has been fixed

June 9, 2008 - MailFoundry Release Announcement
--------------------------------

MailFoundry is pleased to announce the next planned release of the MailFoundry Network Appliance system software. MailFoundry plans to release the new system software between June 7, 2008 and June 10, 2008. Once released you may apply the update using the "System Updates" option under the "System Settings" menu of your MailFoundry appliance.

Once this update is applied to your MailFoundry appliance the system software version number, located at the bottom of the user interface screen, should read "MF2008060900".

Overview
--------

The MF2008060900 release of the MailFoundry software includes the following new features and updates.

- An updated to the anti-virus engine.
- A theme picker in the branding section of the GUI.
- Support for Active Directory and generic LDAP in the Exchange Connector.

Highlights of the bug fixes include the following.

- A possible loss of network configuration at boot has been fixed.
- Problems with the DB Maintenance pop-up window have been fixed.
- Load Average is now calculated correctly on all platforms.
- A log message has been corrected to denote a permanent failure of auto-users.

A comprehensive and detailed breakdown of the new features and the bug fixes is now listed to aid in the integration of this new release and for customers who require a extra information for compliance.

Features / Updates
------------------

- An update to the anti-virus engine is included in this release
that speeds up processing time, addresses a possible infinite loop and addresses a memory consumption issue. The loop and memory issue are corrected by a supervisor program in previous releases.

- A theme picker which allows for changing the theme, or color
scheme and logo, of the interface is now available in the System
Settings->Branding section. The default theme is the current
MailFoundry color scheme and logo. The previous color scheme and logo may also be selected if desired.

- The Exchange Connector has been enhanced to provide compatibility with Active Directory servers and has been tested with MS Windows Server 2008 and MS Exchange 2007. A generic LDAP server may also be used. Sample authorization DN's and base DN's are included in the Help section in the Administrative GUI. The MS Exchange Connector
is located at SMTP Settings->MS Exchange Connector.

Bug Fixes
---------

- A condition whereby the network settings of the appliance can be lost upon boot that was introduced in MF2008040700 is fixed.

- Display problems with the Database Maintenance Window that were introduced in MF2008040700 that included the window display as all black or displaying an error are fixed. This is only a display problem and the database maintenance will operate correctly.

- In previous releases, the displayed load averages were inconsistent. They are now computed as the 1, 5, and 15 minute average percentage of SMTP load capacity. When the load reaches 100%, the appliance will begin sending temporarily unavailable messages to connecting servers until the system load drops.

- In previous releases, when all upstream SMTP servers failed with a 5xx level error and the appliance is configured to use
auto-users/auto-domains, an erroneous log message stating "Temporarily unable to deliver message from to " was sent to syslog even though the message did indeed fail and a non-deliverable bounce was generated. This release modifies the log message to read "Unable to deliver message from to ".

- If an attempt is made to install a version of the software that
is no longer available, an appropriate error will now be displayed to the user. In previous releases, this condition may proceed as though the software has been installed even though nothing has been done.

- After entering a new "Message to be included in the user digest notifications", the section may appear blank after reloading even though the data is correctly stored. This is corrected.

- Extra lines reading "Last Update" on the Quarantine Status page in the Administrative GUI have been removed.

- After changing the hostname of an appliance using the IP configuration page introduced in MF2008040700, several problems may occur. These include the CSR generated during SSL setup having the old hostname, the HTTP redirection used after SSL configuration directing to the old hostname, the hostname listed in the /status RSS feed using the
old hostname and quarantine digest links will also use the old
hostname. This release corrects these errors.

- Modifying the DNS servers using the IP configuration page introduced in MF2008040700 makes the needed changes however, the console interface does not reflect these changes. This release corrects this discrepancy.

- When adding an upstream SMTP server, older versions of the software allowed for a 10 second timeout between responses from the remote server when testing its viability. This release increases this timeout to 60 seconds.

- Previous releases allowed domains to be entered in mixed-case. This release forces all domains to lower-case.

- This release changes the link reading "Reprocess" to "Release"
when viewing the details of a queued email in the Reports->Queue Status->Unscanned section if the details being viewed are for an email that has been queued due to USD.

- The back-end database on the 8100 series has been upgraded to fix a possible data corruption bug.

- A possible problem causing high load on the 4100 series due to detection of RAID mirroring status has been fixed.

- An update to the supervisor program limits prevents an unnecessary reloading of the spam filtering engine on the 8100 platform.

- If an appliance running MF2008040701 is reset to factory defaults, and it becomes necessary to re-run the setup wizard through the console port, the final step of saving the network settings does not work and is fixed in this release. A work around is documented in the errata for MF2008040701.

June 11, 2007 - Version #1100 - MailFoundry Release Announcement

--------------------------------

MailFoundry is pleased to announce the next planned release of the MailFoundry Network Appliance system software. MailFoundry plans to release the new system software between June 11, 2007 and June 13, 2007. Once released you may apply the update using the "System Updates" option under the "System Settings" menu of your MailFoundry appliance.

Once this update is applied to your MailFoundry appliance the system software version number, located at the bottom of the user interface screen, should read "MF2007061100".

Updates and Changes
-------------------

- A new system kernel for all systems is included. The kernel
improves the ability of the appliance to operate under heavy loads and larger number of connections. Improvements to SMP for applicable systems is also included. Speed improvements for filesystem accesses included.

- Releasing a message from the Unscanned queue via the web interface now correctly bypasses USD for the sender of the message being released if applicable.

- If more than 25 domains are configured on an appliance, via any method, the domain drop-down selector now becomes are search box and the current domain is displayed or "System-wide Settings". To change to a new domain, enter the domain to switch to or enter a portion of the domain to search on to bring up a list of domains to choose from (ie: "co" could bring up a list of "acmeco.us" and "acme.com" to choose from). A button to return to the System-wide Settings is available after switching to a domain. Entering a period into the search box will return a list of all available domains to choose from.

- When viewing messages in a queue via the web interface, you may now change the number of messages per page via an input box on the lower left of the screen.

- The branding options now display properly after being set and a new "footer" field is available. The content of the footer field
is added to the end of quarantine digest messages.

- Several logging changes have been made. The IP address of the upstream SMTP server is now displayed in addition to it's DNS name. The Message-ID header is logged making it easier to correlate logs with other systems that use this field. UUID's for each unique message transaction, the first field in chevrons, are still available to make searching with grep and products such as Splunk simple.

- 6100 and 8100 models now display status of the hardware RAID including hot spare information for the 8100 on the Overview page.

- A new feature to disable negative caching when using auto-users is available in the SMTP Settings->Misc. area. For normal operations, negative caching is always enabled. This option has no effect if the appliance is not using auto-users. When using auto-users and negative caching is enable, it allows the appliance to cache the results of tests to the upstream SMTP server(s) when the upstream server(s) respond with a 5xx level error indicating that the From/To combination is rejected. For most MTA setups, this would indicate that the RCPTTO address does not exist so, the appliance can cache this information to avoid checking it again for a small period of time. Some mailers, such as Exim, make additional checks on the
From/To combinations that can not or operationally should not be whitelisted. Disabling negative caching in this instance will
prevent the appliance from caching this negative information as it would result in the appliance not delivering to that address for a set period of time even though it may truly be valid. Most sites should leave this value as enabled.

- A bug that would cause RedListing to be activated in rare
circumstances even though it was disabled has been fixed.

February 26, 2007 - MailFoundry Release Announcement
--------------------------------

MailFoundry is pleased to announce the next planned release of the MailFoundry Network Appliance system software. MailFoundry plans to release the new system software between February 26, 2007 and February 28, 2007. Once released you may apply the update using the "System Updates" option under the "System Settings" menu of your MailFoundry appliance.

Once this update is applied to your MailFoundry appliance the system software version number, located at the bottom of the user interface screen, should read "MF2007022600".

Updates and Changes
-------------------

- Updates to allow the appliances to recognize the new daylight
savings time changes enacted by the US Congress in 2005. These changes only affect customers using timezones that fall in the United States.

- Whitelists for Redlisting will now function as documented. Previous behavior was erratic.

- Reports may now be scheduled to coincide with midnight GMT. In previous releases, this would cause problems.

- Unit times of seconds are now available for Greylisting settings.

- The RedListing column abbreviation in the Whitelists section of
the interface has been changed from "R" to "RD" to avoid a conflict with the RBL label. The conflict did not affect functionality.

- When displaying an IP's status for a RedList search, a host is
now displayed as "not redlisted" instead of "whitelisted" to avoid
semantic confusion with actual whitelisting.

- The release includes an update to the virus scanning engine.

-------------------
IMPORTANT: Effective with the October 18, 2005 release of the
MailFoundry Anti-Spam Appliance system software, there have been several changes to the automatic update service.

Customers using our MailFoundry Anti-Spam Appliance 1100 and 1150 need not reboot their appliance.

January 16, 2007 - MailFoundry Release Announcement

--------------------------------

MailFoundry is pleased to announce the next planned release of the MailFoundry Network Appliance system software. MailFoundry plans to release the new system software between January 16, 2007 and January 18, 2007. Once released you may apply the update using the "System Updates" option under the "System Settings" menu of your MailFoundry appliance.

Once this update is applied to your MailFoundry appliance the system software version number, located at the bottom of the user interface screen, should read "MF2007011600".

Updates and Changes
-------------------

*** This release makes modifications to the statistics database
upon installation. Depending on the age of the appliance, the
modifications can add from no additional time to the boot process to up to 5 minutes in some cases.

- RedListing has been added as an additional tool to combat spam. A paper describing RedListing is available on the MailFoundry support website at http://www.mailfoundry.com/support/ .

- GreyListing as been added as an additional tool to combat spam. GreyListing is fairly standard across the industry and is effective but, does delay incoming mail.

- This release includes an upgrade to and performance enhancements to the appliance's database server.

- Improvements to the MIQv3 engine to catch new variants of image based spam are included in this release.

- The virus scanning engine has been updated with this release.

- "Error Code 10" has been eliminated.

- RBL catches now have the option of being able to reject at the
connection level or at the "SMTP Level". Rejecting at the connection level will drop the connection immediately after opening it and does *not* allow for the use of domain whitelists (IP based whitelists still can apply). Rejecting at the "SMTP Level" will accept header information from the incoming server to determine the involved domains so domain level whitelists can be applied. Previously, only "SMTP Level" functionality was available.

- When viewing the Queue Status, the counts of the quarantine message reasons are now only updated when requested by clicking on the link. The last updated time shows the last time the counts were updated. These counts previously were updated every 15 minutes and are very database intensive to update. The "Total Count" is always up to date.

- On the Overview Page statistics bar graph, the hours listed on
the bottom were off by 1. The last bar to the right represents the total accumulated mail for the previous whole hour and should have read as such (data for 10am-11am will now be marked as "10"). Data for the current hour is not displayed.

- Message headers can now be optionally rendered when viewing a message from any of the queues. When viewing headers from messages in the quarantine, the header showing the rule-id that caught the message will be highlighted.

- Numerous performance and stability improvements have been made to the appliance with this release that are not directly visible to the end user.

IMPORTANT: Effective with the October 18, 2005 release of the
MailFoundry Anti-Spam Appliance system software, there have been several changes to the automatic update service.

Customers using our MailFoundry Anti-Spam Appliance 1100 and 1150 need not reboot their appliance.

October 23, 2006 - Version #2300 - MailFoundry is pleased to announce the next planned release of the MailFoundry Network Appliance system software. MailFoundry plans to release the new system software between October 23, 2006 and October 25, 2006. Once released you may apply the update using the "System Updates" option under the "System Settings" menu of your MailFoundry appliance.

Once this update is applied to your MailFoundry appliance the system software version number, located at the bottom of the user interface screen, should read "MF2006102300".

Updates and Changes
-------------------

- This release adds the ability for an RBL to trigger if any return
code is returned from an RBL server for an IP address. Previously, if triggering on more than one return code per RBL server was needed, multiple entries were needed on the RBL configuration page. Now, the option to trigger on one return code per server or on any return code per server is available.

** IMPORTANT **
** In order to help keep your MailFoundry appliance filtering as
much spam as possible, this release makes an important change to the RBL configuration. After installation, an entry for the RBL server "zen.spamhaus.org" will be added and *made active*. This SpamHaus server is taking the place of the old SBL-XBL server at SpamHaus and we highly recommend it's usage. All other entries for spamhaus.org in the RBL configuration are no longer needed and *will be disabled*. This entry for "zen.spamhaus.org" triggers on any return value from the zen.spamhaus.org server. If you do not wish to use the "zen.spamhaus.org" entry, disable it and re-enable the
entry you were previously using.

- MIQv3 with this release includes enhancements to the image matching algorithms to better detect spam emails that have their content contained in images.

- Virus scanning with this release has been updated to fix some
minor bugs.

- The Search buttons that were inadvertently removed with the last release are now restored in the queue status screens.

IMPORTANT: Effective with the October 18, 2005 release of the
MailFoundry Anti-Spam Appliance system software, there have been several changes to the automatic update service. If you wish to use the automatic update service, you will need to modify the settings found under the "System Settings" tab in the "System Updates" sub-menu. June 19, 2006 - MailFoundry Release Announcement
--------------------------------

MailFoundry is pleased to announce the next planned release of the MailFoundry Network Appliance system software. MailFoundry plans
to release the new system software between June 19th, 2006 and June
21st, 2006. Once released you may apply the update using the "System
Updates" option under the "System Settings" menu of your MailFoundry
appliance.

FIXES:

DB Maintenance: An issue has been resolved that would occasionally
have prevented the database maintenance from completing successfully.

Quarantine Release All / Delete All: A bug which prevented deleting
or releasing all the messages in the quarantine at once has been resolved.

Domain admin searches: If a domain admin would attempt to perform
a search that was in control of multiple domains, they would see
extra results that did not match their search query. This has been
resolved with tighter controls on how the search query is created
on the system.

Quarantine Message Expiration: Many customers have noticed that the
Quarantine queue is not expiring messages at the configured time
interval. This issue has been resolved and messages will be expired
in the first 24 hours after the update has been installed. Due to
the large number of messages that may be back-logged, this initial
deletion will take between 2min. and 20min. to complete and the
results will not be seen until some time afterwards. Mail flow
will be unaffected during that time.

Quarantine Digest Duplication: Some customers have noticed that
some digests can duplicate to some of their users. This issue has
now been resolved.

Background Overview Image Creation: The process that creates the
cached images for the overview page has received some updates to
cut down on system resources.

IMPORTANT:
Effective with the October 18, 2005 release of the MailFoundry
Anti-Spam Appliance system software, there have been several changes

May 22, 2006 - MailFoundry Release Announcement
----------------------------------------

MailFoundry is pleased to announce the next planned release of the MailFoundry Network Appliance system software. MailFoundry plans to release the new system software between May 22nd, 2006 and May 24th, 2006. Once released you may apply the update using the "System Updates" option under the "System Settings" menu of your MailFoundry appliance.

NEW FEATURES:

A new version of the anti-virus system software.

FIXES:

Admin Interface Restart Bug: An issue may occur where the admin interface will not restart after a database error or reboot. This issue has been resolved by enhancing the system monitoring and restart capabilities.

Quarantine Digests: The digest system will now be case insensitive when discovering which addresses to generate a digest.

Overview Page: With the MF2006050800 release, images on the overview page are generated in the background for faster loading. This process of generating images could cause the system to run low on system resources on machines with higher numbers of domains. This issue is now resolved.

HoneyPot Addresses: Several fixes are in place. First, the Unknown Sender Delay is no longer applied to the HoneyPot Addresses. Also, when an email with multiple recipients is received by the MF appliance and one of the recipients is a HoneyPot account, a bounce-back email failed to be generated for the HoneyPot address in the list (all emails were delivered and no bounce-back was generated). The proper behavior is now to deliver to the available recipients and generate
a bounce-back for the HoneyPot address(es).

SMTP Server Logging: A number of logging fixes have been put in place.

MIQv3 Targetted Filters: With the MF2006050800 release, the Targetted Filters were not being properly applied to the MIQv3 rulesets.

System Updates: Many users reported Error Code 13 appearing in the admin interface. This error should now be less prone to occur.

Queue Detailed: A problem has been resolved with the viewing of attachments in the queues.

Queue Counts: Some users have reported issues with the Queue Counts not updating. This issue has been resolved.

IMPORTANT:
Effective with the October 18, 2005 release of the MailFoundry
Anti-Spam Appliance system software, there have been several changes to the automatic update service. Effective with the October 18, 2005 release of the MailFoundry system software, there have been several changes to the automatic update service. If you wish to use the automatic update service, you will need to modify the settings found under the "System Settings" tab in the "System Updates" sub-menu. You will be asked to define how often your appliance checks for new system software updates and at what time the check will take place.

Once you have configured these options, your MailFoundry appliance will automatically check for new updates and apply them.

Customers using the MailFoundry 2100, 4100, 6100 and 8100 appliance will receive an email notification once the new update has been processed. You will then need to reboot your appliance for the changes to take effect.

Please note that once your appliance has been rebooted it may take several minutes for the system software to come online due to database updates which must be processed.

Customers using our MailFoundry 1100 appliance need not reboot their appliance.

Once this update is applied to your MailFoundry appliance the system software version number, located at the bottom of the user interface screen, should read "MF2006022800".

Reminder:

If you receive a message which should have been detected as spam, please forward the message to spam@mailfoundry.com. If you encounter a message which was falsely detected as spam please forward it to notspam@mailfoundry.com.

New Features:

MessageIQ Anti-Spam v3.0 Public Beta - We are placed to announce the latest version of the MessageIQ spam detection engine, MessageIQ Anti-Spam v3.0. As part of our development and testing process for this new version, we are
making available to all MailFoundry customers a public beta version.

Please be aware that although MessageIQ Anti-Spam v3.0 should detect more spam then previous versions of the engine, it may also generate more false-positive results.

It is strongly recommended that if you enable MessageIQ Anti-Spam v3.0, you do not disable MessageIQ Anti-Spam v2.0 at this time.

You can set anti-spam engine preferences by clicking on the
"MessageIQ Settings" tab and then select "Anti-Spam Engines" from the left side menu.

MessageIQ Anti-Virus -- An updated version of the MessageIQ Anti-Virus engine has been included with this release. The new version improves performance and stability. Several updates were also made to the processing of incorrectly
created ZIP archives.

Queue Status Viewing -- Many improvements have been made to Queue Status Viewing to make the system perform much faster as well as easier to use. The message subject and the date received have been added along with the to, from, message size, and failure reason fields. Each field can be used to sort messages, providing quick access to messages.

Queue Status Viewing - Domain Level - Domain level administrators may now access the incoming, outgoing and unscanned queues for their domain. Previously domain level administrators could only view the quarantine queue
for their domain.

System Logging -- You may now define the log facility for external logging. You may choose LOCAL1 through LOCAL7.

Anti-Spam / Anti-Virus Max Message Size -- You may now configure the maximum message size to be processed by the MessageIQ Anti-Spam and MessageIQ Anti-Virus engines. Messages larger than the maximum size specified will
not be processed by the configured engine.

Removed "Notify the Sender" Anti-Virus Action -- Most virus infected messages come from spoofed "From:" addresses. Using the "Notify the Sender" anti-virus option generates a large volume of incorrectly targeted messages or undeliverable messages. This option has been removed and is no longer
available.

Improvements and Fixes:

Domain Admin Statistics View -- In rare cases, a domain level administrator was able to view detailed statistics from the System Level. This issue has been resolved.

Queue Sorting -- When clicking on a sorting field in the queue status display, only the current page's content was sorted. Now, the entire contents of the queue (Incoming, Outgoing or Unscanned) are sorted.

System Status Page -- A display issue was corrected which caused the system uptime to display incorrectly when the system uptime was less then one day.

Custom Filters -- A display error caused the "Last Matched" and
"Number Matched" columns to be reversed.

Quarantine Digest Overrides -- Fixed an issue which would cause new override entries to not be applied if an existing override had not been present.

Login Accounts -- Login accounts may now include the @ symbol as part of their user name.

Statistics View -- Fixed an issue which would cause administrators to not be able to view per-user statistics for some users.

December 12, 2005 - Solinus is pleased to announce the next planned release of the MailFoundry Network Appliance system software.

October 31, 2005 - Version #3100 - Solinus is pleased to announce the next planned release of the MailFoundry Network Appliance system software.

Solinus plans to release the new system software between October 31, 2005 and November 1, 2005.

Important:

Once this update is applied to your MailFoundry appliance the system software version number, located at the bottom of the user interface screen, should read "MF2005103100".

New Features:

Unknown Sender Delay - Your MailFoundry appliance is updated in near real-time with new Spam Profiles as our human editing team finds new spam attacks, however some users who are on the front line of a new spam attack may see spam at the same time our team does. This causes a period of a few minutes where the new spam will pass the MailFoundry appliance anti-spam check and reach your user's inbox.

Unknown Sender Delay or USD is a new feature unique to the MailFoundry anti-spam product line designed to help organizations on the front line of new spam attacks by delaying inbound email from senders which you have never received email from in the past. In many cases, by the time the defined
period of time has expired, your appliance will have received a new Spam Profile coving the inbound messages which will prevent the message from reaching your users inbox.

USD is a configuration option which may been enabled or disabled by the system administrator. You may also define the period of time of which unknown sender's messages are delayed (5 to 60 minutes). If USD is enabled on a system level, it may be enabled or disabled as needed on a per-domain level.

Known senders messages will be processed without delay when using Unknown Sender Delay.

Branding - You may now change the look-and-feel of your MailFoundry Appliance to better fit your organization's branding. You can change the logo displayed within the user interface, change the product name displayed and configure the support contact information found under the "Support" tab.
Branding settings will also modify the Quarantine Digest message feature of your MailFoundry Appliance.

Direct User Manual Access - You can now find a direct link to the
MailFoundry user manual under the "Support" tab within the MailFoundry user interface.

HMail Email Engine Improvements - Many changes have been made to the HMail Email Engine to provide better performance. Improvements have also been made to the connection limiting system, communications with the anti-spam and anti-virus engine as well as several improvements which will provide
better stability for your MailFoundry appliance.

Database Server - The database server included with your MailFoundry appliance has been updated to provide better support for larger database tables.

Anti-Virus Engine - The anti-virus engine included with your MailFoundry appliance has been updated.

Honey Pot Accounts - When receiving email into a Honey Pot account, the MailFoundry appliance will now send a permanent delivery error to the sending SMTP server alerting the sender that the email account does not exist.

X-Envelope - The HMail Email engine will now show the original sender of an email in the X-Envelope-To and X-Envelope-From field of message headers.
This change will make it easier for creating of custom content filters based on the sender of the message.

Bug Fixes

Stats Display - Fixed an issue which would cause you to be redirected to the queue stats screen when selected a domain from within the statistics detail screen.

Quarantine Redirections - Fixed an issue which allowed domain administrators the ability to view quarantine redirections for domains which they did not have rights to.

New Features:

New User Interface - After extensive development and testing, the all-new MailFoundry user interface is complete and will become the default user interface on your MailFoundry Network appliance.
